Jason's predominantly street-level footage covers three days of violent protest during the first week of the uprising in Cairo. 

We see close-up scenes of rebellion, anger and violence as tanks plough through crowds of protestors and police fire at protestors who respond with volleys of stones and rocks.

During his self-funded trip, Jason was seized and beaten by security police who attempted to take his camera tapes; targetted by police snipers, and forced to barricade himself into his hotel room when pro-government protestors tried to break in to the hotel after beating a woman to death.

The judges praised Jason's ability to shoot in sequences despite the danger of the situation he was in. One said the footage was "unflinching". Another said: "This guy was everywhere for days. He had some luck - but he capitalized on his luck. The resulting footage is incredibly intense - because he had the courage to get right into the middle of the action."

BIOGRAPHY
Jason N. Parkinson is a freelance video journalist based in London. In 2001 he started out as a print journalist and turned to using a video camera while covering the protests against the G8 in Scotland in 2005. Working for most UK television news outlets and multimedia packages for online national newspapers, he specialises in covering protest movements and civil unrest nationally and internationally. His coverage has taken him across Europe and more recently into North Africa, covering anti-capitalist and anti-war protests and mass mobilisations against economic recession and governments. Jason has also produced investigations covering social and environmental issues, including the privatised water sources of Coca Cola in Southern Mexico, the homeless war-on-terror refugee camps Northern France and the refugees fleeing sexual violence from Iran.
